A Colorado Christmas

A Colorado Christmas

It truly is exciting to enjoy the unique aspects from each of the changing seasons; especially during the winter Christmas holidays. What other time of the year could one excuse without raising a few eyebrows the hanging on the walls of bright colorful lights in our cities, homes and places of business? Not sure if due to the highly optimistic inventive 70’s but I truly delight in all aspects of the holidays such as attending holiday events, watching all the colorful bright lights at night, or just the spending of extra quality time with family, co-workers and or friends. It is equally awesome to see individuals wishing each other good cheer, a great holiday and good wishes. Colorado truly is even the more Colorful as its state name implies during the Christmas season. Even during its most abundant snow fall one could still appreciate the tall majestic pine trees, rolling hills, and cozy lodges to include the spectacular snow covered mountains and quaint western towns each with its unique personality.

Christmas activities and crafts        People from all across the states visit Colorado not just for the joy of skiing but also for the traveling train rides, river rafting, bed & breakfast Inns, quaint lodges, dude ranches, wineries, festivals, golf courses, gaming towns or ghost towns, outdoor attractions and to include the entertaining urban night life. Many from near or far could celebrate in a big or small way for regardless the scenery itself is so inspiring that even taking the family out for a car ride specially if going through the specially lit neighborhoods, the Zoo, Seven Falls or just for a stroll downtown among other fun places could prove to be an adventure. What’s truly most important besides having great fun is to rejoice in the joy that is Christmas. Families could find ways of doing many activities together even on a limited budget. The holiday season is in addition a time to reflect and rejoice with harmony in life itself and a time to look forward to many more times together with those we hold dear;  while celebrating in the birth our creator of the Universe, our world and the new opportunities to start anew with the coming New Year.  It’s great to share the many holiday activities such as baking, doing handmade crafts, home decorations and or spending time in our places of worship. Regardless of personal situations all families could rejoice in the joy that is the spirit of Christmas and even those that live alone.

Children Holiday Crafts      There are many crafts and activities that families could do together. In addition to going out to fun places one could take time out to bake cookies, listen to joyful Christmas music, visit with Grandma, and or watch a fun cheerful movie. A great simple gift that children could make is to frame one of their school drawings of the holidays from their last week of class prior to vacation and give as a gift. In the photo at left a then six year old drew this picture for me and I framed it and it has been one of my most treasured wall decorations. Frames could be found at reasonable prices at discount stores not to count the pride that children could feel in having their art creativity displayed proudly by adults.  I have seen many business acquaintances displaying their children art work at the office. Another great activity is a cooking apron for little girls that they could decorate with their name in Rhine stones, cloth color maker, and or iron on unique appliqués. In addition serving a nice cup of hot chocolate stirred with a long Cinnamon stick found at many ethnic stores that also could double later in use for a holiday season natural scent is great fun.  This could be made by simmering cinnamon sticks, cloves, nutmeg, and some vanilla in water that later could be placed in a small container crock-pot for gradually scenting the home. See image in photo displayed with the poinsettias Christmas flowers. As always practice safety in all activities done at the home or place visiting to include watching out for pets.

In closing, year after and year after year I never tire of the joyous spirit that is Christmas. I still like to watch even the movies such as frosty the snowman, Rudolf, and yes even The Grinch That Stole Christmas. Many to include myself could relate to the Grinch movie for at one time or another a challenging situation has occurred that could affect our joy at Christmas but just like in this movie it is not just about the ribbons, candies, decorations, or twinkling lights but about the joy of life with harmony and a time to celebrate with all from near and afar; our humanity, our creation and the creator of this magnificent Universe.  This is for sure one great Colorado Christmas. Enjoy it.
